With the 2017 Mazda CX-9 you can take everyone along, without sacrificing driving enjoyment. It’s a family vehicle that keeps passengers comfortable, safe and happy, while still thrilling drivers with engaging dynamics. Even better, clever engineering keeps fuel consumption low, so you spend less time at the pump.
For 2017, the Mazda CX-9 comes in four well-appointed models: GS, GS-L, GT and Signature. As you move up the line, additional finishes and features make for a more premium experience.
Performance
All models use a Skyactiv-G 2.5 T four-cylinder turbocharged engine. It puts out 250 horsepower and a wondrous 310 lb.-ft. of torque. Even better, Mazda engineers designed the Dynamic Pressure Turbo for quick power delivery with no lag, so you enjoy a smooth delivery even at low RPMs.
Mated to the engine is a Skyactiv-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission. A switch lets you quickly select different modes, including the ability to shift gears manually. While front-wheel drive is standard on the GS, all other models use an i-Activ all-wheel-drive system. A total of 27 sensors monitor conditions and help predict what the road surface ahead will be like, so you enjoy excellent handling.
Helping the Mazda CX-9 hug the road better is a front independent MacPherson strut suspension, with a stabilizer bar and coil springs. In the rear, a multi-link suspension cushions blows and provides excellent handling characteristics.
Safety
As a family-oriented vehicle, the Mazda CX-9 comes loaded with a comprehensive array of safety features. No matter which version of the SUV you choose, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes are included. They work with an anti-lock system and electronic brake force distribution to make emergency stops safer.
You can also get advanced safety technologies, which act like extra eyes to help you be more vigilant. Radar cruise control doesn’t just keep the vehicle traveling at a set speed. It also monitors for vehicles ahead in the same lane, slowing down automatically to maintain a safe following distance. As traffic resumes a normal speed, the SUV returns to the speed you set automatically.
At high or low speeds, the vehicle can detect an obstacle in the way and warn you about the danger. If you fail to take evasive action, brake support will automatically stop the Mazda CX-9 to avoid a collision, or mitigate it.
Onboard cameras read the lane lines on a road, and the lane departure warning system tells you if the SUV starts to cross over them without the turn signal turned on. A lane-keep assist system smoothly helps drivers get the vehicle centered in the lane again.
Interior
Everyone enjoys plenty of space inside the Mazda CX-9, even on the third row. The seats are well-padded and supportive, while Nappa leather upholstery, heaters and more can be added for additional comfort.
Drivers stay informed with the Mazda Connect infotainment system. You navigate through the menus and make selections with the intuitive HMI Commander control, instead of struggling with a touchscreen while driving. Other available onboard technologies include a 12-speaker Bose sound system and satellite radio.
